As the flagship public service program for Oklahoma’s metropolitan university, the University of Central Oklahoma MPA serves diverse communities by preparing ethical, transformational leaders who creatively and analytically inform public dialogue and manage policy through collaborative action by preparing graduates for careers in government, nonprofit organizations, and other public service fields. Admission Requirements


Submit the following items to:

  • Online application for admission (www.uco.edu/graduate/).
  • Official copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts from each institution attended with all degrees posted. All transcripts must be from accredited institutions.
  • A student may be admitted by one of the three following methods.
    • A minimum 2.75 GPA overall or 3.00 GPA in the last 60 hours attempted.
    • GRE scores. The student must obtain a score of 150 on the Verbal portion of the GRE, 145 on the Quantitative portion of the GRE, and 4.5 on the Writing portion of the GRE.
    • Possess a master’s degree from an accredited university/college with an overall GPA of 3.00.
  • Students with a native language other than English must submit evidence of English language proficiency. See Admission to Graduate Studies  - English Language Proficiency.

*Students falling below these standards may qualify for conditional admission. See Admission to Graduate Studies .

Other Requirements


  • Plan of Study. Each student must develop a plan of study with his/her program advisor and file it with the Jackson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) by the end of the first semester of graduate work. The plan must be signed and dated by the student and the graduate program advisor before it can be considered official.
  • Academic Standards. Meet the following coursework standards:
    • Overall GPA of 3.00 or higher.
    • No more than six hours of “C”.
    • No more than six advisor-approved hours of independent study courses.
  • Course Completion. Completion of 36 hours: 21 hours of core courses including three hours of capstone paper, nine hours selected from guided electives and six hours of general electives.
  • Final Requirements. Apply for graduation through the JCGS by advertised deadline.

Accelerated Degree Pathway: BA to MA


Students in the B.A. Political Science - Political Science or Political Science - Public Service programs wishing to apply for the Accelerated BA/MPA program in Public & Nonprofit Management may enroll in three Public Administration graduate-level courses as seniors under the Graduate College’s Accelerated Degree Pathway (ADP) program. Students may choose any cross-listed (4000/5000) course or 5000-level course with permission of the Graduate Advisor for Political Science. Admission to the program requires a 3.0 undergraduate GPA and application to and approval of the Graduate Advisor for Political Science.
