Students seeking the master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language pursue an interdisciplinary program of studies integrating TESL theory and practice. The program offers courses on TESL theory, methodology, and language structure, as well as a TESL practicum.

Submit the following items to: Jackson College of Graduate Studies 100 N. University Drive, NUC 404 Edmond, OK 73034 - Online application for admission (www.uco.edu/graduate/).
- Official copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts from each institution attended with all degrees posted. All transcripts must be from accredited institutions. Transcripts must show:
- A minimum of 3.0 undergraduate GPA (overall) or 3.0 undergraduate GPA (last 60 hours completed); and 15 hours of undergraduate English with a 3.0 GPA.
- Students may gain conditional admission by achieving a score of 150 (verbal) and 4.5 (analytical writing) on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
- Students with a native language other than English must submit evidence of English language proficiency. See Admission to Graduate Studies - English Language Proficiency.

- Plan of Study. Each student must file a plan of study with his/ her graduate program advisor and the Jackson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) by the end of the first semester of graduate work. The plan must be signed and dated by the graduate program advisor before it can be considered official.
- Academic Standards. Meet the following coursework standards:
- Overall GPA of 3.00 or higher.
- No more than six hours of “C”.
- No more than six advisor-approved hours from traditional correspondence courses.
- At least 15 of 33 total hours must be in Graduate English courses
- Language Requirement. Demonstrate reading knowledge of a second language in one of the following ways:
- Earn a “C” or better in a minimum of six credit hours in a single second language at the University of Central Oklahoma. These hours will not count toward the M.A. degree.
- Produce evidence of having earned a “C” or better in a minimum of six credit hours in a single second language at an approved college or university. These hours will not count toward the M.A. degree.
- Capstone Experience. Complete ENG 5803 TESL Portfolio .
- Final Requirements. Apply for graduation through the JCGS by the advertised deadline.
Language Courses: 6 Hours
Pedagogy Courses: 12 Hours
General Electives: 9 Hours
The nine hours of General Electives will consist of a minimum of 3 hours of English (ENG) coursework, and may include up to six hours from departments in related disciplines, with advisor approval. Capstone Experience: 3 Hours
