Cybersecurity, M.S.

This program is designed to prepare students to meet the demands of doctoral study in cybersecurity or a professional position of advanced cybersecurity practices and solutions in the IT industry. The curriculum has an emphasis on cyber incident response for the students to further develop their problem-solving skills and expertise beyond the baccalaureate level.

Admission Requirements


Submit the following items to:

• Online application for admission (www.uco.edu/graduate/).

• Official copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts from each institution attended with all degrees posted. All transcripts must be from accredited institutions.

• Undergraduate transcripts must show a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall or a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours attempted.*

• An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or evidence of completion of all prerequisites (if any), as determined by the graduate advisor

• A GRE score is not required. However, we recommend a minimum combined GRE verbal and quantitative score of 290 with a minimum quantitative core of 150.

• Requests for conditional admission may be made by

  1. students having an overal undergraduate GPA of at least 2.50 and a minimum combined GRE verbal and quantitative score of 310 with a minimum quantitative score of 155; or
  2. students having an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 2.25 with five year of experience in the discipline since the date of their first bachelor’s degree.

*Students falling below these standards may qualify for conditional admission. See Admission to Graduate Studies  

Other Requirements


Plan of Study. Each student must file a plan of study with the program director and the Jackson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) by the end of the first semester of graduate work. The plan must be signed and dated by the student and the program director before it can be considered official.

 

Academic Standards. Meet the following course work standards:

  • Minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.00 in all courses listed in the certificate.
  • No more than six (6) graduate hours of “C”.
  • Courses with a grade lower than a C do not apply toward graduation.
  • Apply for graduation through the Jackson College of Graduate Studies by the advertised deadline.

 

Thesis (optional). If applicable, complete an acceptable thesis and successfully defend it in public. Submit two paper copies of the thesis and one electronic copy to the library through Proquest and the thesis’ original title page, original signature page, summary and abstract page to the JCGS.

Guided Elective Hours: 3 Hours


CMSC 5XXX courses or courses chosen in consultation with the graduate advisor.
