The Doctor of Science - Forensic Science Program provides students with an additional 60 semester hours of graduate courses and research beyond the master’s degree. Our program offers a unique balance of internships, seminars, research, and management leadership training that is an integral part of the curriculum.

Application deadline is April 15.

Admission into the Graduate Forensic Science Program is for the Fall semester only. Priority Admission will be considered for completed applications received in the Forensic Science Institute by April 15. Regular Admission will be considered after April 15, but before the first day of school in the Fall semester or until capacity is reached.

  • Online application for admission (www.uco.edu/graduate/).
  • Official copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts from each institution attended with all degrees posted. All transcripts must be from accredited institutions.
  • Applications for the Graduate Forensic Science Program will be reviewed by the Forensic Science Institute.
  • For admission to the program, applicants are required to provide:
  • An M.S. degree in an area of science (Biological Science, Chemistry, Computer Science, Forensic Science, Mathematics, Physics, etc.), Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, etc.), or an area congruent with the Institute’s existing
  • M.S. program. Students wishing admission to the D.Sc.-Forensic Science program who lack any prerequisite coursework may be considered for provisionary admission and will be required to take up to 14 additional hours of graduate coursework to provide the necessary foundation for the program. The student’s Advisory Committee will decide what supplemental courses are to be completed.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.25 (or an equivalent) or higher. Applicants with less than a 3.25 GPA may be granted probationary admission based upon their overall academic and professional practice, history and accomplishments as determined by the Program Director and the Admissions Committee.
  • Three letters of recommendation from individuals who can provide input on the applicant’s potential to successfully complete D.Sc.-Forensic Science-level courses and conduct independent research.
  • A statement of research interest and career goals to be used in admission decisions on the applicant’s match with the program goals and faculty specialties.
  • Where English is not the native language, students must have scored above 550 on the paper based TOEFL or above 79 on the Internet based TOEFL.

Other Requirements


  • Plan of Study. Each student must file a plan of study with their graduate program advisor and the Jackson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) by the end of the first semester during which they complete their twelfth hour of graduate work. The plan must be signed and dated by the student and the graduate program advisor before it can be considered official.
  • Academic Standards. Meet the following course work standards:
    • Overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.
  • Completion of 60 credit hours
  • Final Requirements. Apply for graduation through the JCGS by advertising deadline.
