ART 3733 - History of American Studio Craft


This course will explore craft’s relationship to the fine arts and design and foster a critical understanding of the field as well as craft’s place historically and in contemporary culture. The content will include a discussion of artists, designers, and their materials, including but not limited to: clay, glass, metal, wood, paper, and fiber, and their roles in utility and aesthetics in industry and contemporary artists’ studio practices. This course may include visits to galleries, museums, and artist studios or demonstrations in one or more media.

Credit Hours: 3

Enrollment Restrictions: Junior standing or above.
