Speech-Language Pathology
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology are required to request formal permission during their junior year (or after completing 65 semester hours) to the Program Director of Speech-Language Pathology to enroll in advanced courses in this major. The student must submit the Request for Permission form to the Speech-Language Pathology program beginning the last Monday in November and must be submitted on or before the first Friday of January for consideration for permission to enroll in the Spring sequence. There is only one round of permission for upper division courses; the beginning Fall course sequence does not require permission, with permission required for the following Spring courses in the SLP Junior-level sequence. Speech-Language Pathology courses are sequential, so that each subsequent semester the student must have completed the previous major professional courses with satisfactory academic progress for continued enrollment in SLP courses. Foundations of Speech-Language Pathology, Acoustic Phonetics, Normal Language Development, and Speech & Hearing Mechanism do not require permission and may be taken as the beginning of the SLP course sequence prior to requesting permission into the Spring upper division course sequence.
Admission into Senior level and SLP 4900 Practicum
There is one round of admission into Senior level courses and Senior practicum, SLP 4900. All students applying to Senior courses and to participate in senior practicum are required to submit formal application and current official transcripts.
Admission into senior practicum is competitive as there are more students applying than positions available. Preference is given to students with higher GPAs, evidencing the ability to succeed academically. Students seeking permission to enroll in Senior courses and senior practicum must continue to meet all minimum requirements as published in the Undergraduate Catalog and in the Speech-Language Pathology Handbook for permission to enroll and for Progression in the Program. Formal permission by the Program Director and Clinical Director is required to enroll in Senior Practicum.
