2023-2024 Transfer Agreements Catalog

OCCC Associate in Science - Biology to UCO Bachelor of Science - Biology -Biomedical Science

The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), in collaboration with Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC), participates in articulated transfer agreements to assist students in transferring smoothly from the associate degree to the baccalaureate degree. These agreements express a shared commitment to student access and success in higher education.

This document specifies courses to be taken at OCCC and courses to be taken at UCO to meet this agreement.

Associate in Science (A.S.) - Biology

Students should refer to the associate degree requirements and an academic advisor for associate degree details to ensure a successful transition to UCO.

Oklahoma City Community College General Education

This section is an outline of the general education pattern at OCCC common to all majors. Some general education areas may vary by major. In those areas, consult an academic advisor or refer to the OCCC catalog or requirement sheet. An Associate in Science (A.S.) or Associate in Art (A.A.) degree from an accredited Oklahoma institution that includes the OSRHE minimum requirements will satisfy the UCO University Core.

Additional Requirements

Students will need at least one 3-hour course from the following disciplines: Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Fine Arts (Art, Music, and Theatre), or Modern Languages. Credited courses completed as part of the A.A. or A.S. that do not meet a specific UCO degree requirement transfer to UCO as electives and may count toward the 124-hour minimum. Students should consult an academic advisor to determine how elective courses apply toward the bachelor’s degree. Bachelor of Science (B.S.) - Biology-Biomedical Science

Students must meet all bachelor’s degree requirements at UCO to include minimums of:

30 hours in residence at UCO

National Assessment Exam

Graduating seniors must take a national assessment exam in Biology as a graduation requirement for the B.S. in Biology-Biomedical Sciences.

Capstone Experience Details

A maximum of 2 credit hours from the following list of capstone courses may apply toward the 29 credit hours of guided electives.

To enroll in a Capstone Experience, students must complete a minimum of 60 credit hours. This 0-credit hour course is designed to be taken in conjunction with a capstone experience. Capstone experiences may include the above courses, or special projects in biology. Special projects include but are not limited to independent research, service learning, professional school applications, or other equivalent experiences as approved by the Capstone Coordinator. Approval of the Capstone Coordinator is required before starting any capstone experience. A reflective writing piece, which must receive a passing score, will be required for all capstones.

Graduate Medical and Allied Health Professional Schools Details

Students accepted to graduate medical and allied health professional schools (e.g. Chiropractic, Dentistry, Medicine, Optometry, Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine) prior to completing this degree will be allowed to transfer a maximum of 30 credit hours from the first year of medical course work toward the guided electives and electives included in this degree.

Minimum Grade Requirements

Average in (a) all college course work, (b) course work at UCO, and (c) major courses: 2.00
A minimum grade of “C” must be earned in all courses in the major to count toward meeting degree requirements.

All UCO degrees require a minimum of 124 credit hours.

Total hours required for this major may exceed the minimum 124 credit hour institutional minimum requirement and will vary according to course selection. It is recommended students complete high school algebra II, trigonometry, physics, and two years of a second language in high school.

Transfer Policies

Transfer policies are available in the Introduction for Program-to-Program Agreements. This agreement does not include all possible variations for transfer with these programs/majors. The Academic Advisors along with the information in the official catalogs at both institutions are critical to the understanding of the specifics of degree completion.
