UCO Major Requirements

Some courses may be taken at the community college but may or may not apply to the associate major or degree. Consult with an academic advisor for that information.
Major Requirements: 39-55 hours
Modern Language - German
Elementary German: 0-8 hours
- GERM 1114 Elementary German I (RSC course GERM 1115)
- GERM 1224 Elementary German II (RSC course GERM 1225)
A maximum of eight hours of credit for Elementary German may be earned by examination. Alternatively, two (2) years of high school German may be substituted for GERM 1114 and another two (2) years of high school German for GERM 1224. This fulfills the language requirement but conveys no credit hours toward graduation. Evaluation of a student’s language skills may lead to placement in a more advanced course and waiving of prerequisite courses. Only testing through acknowledged processes (CLEP or AP, for example) conveys credit hours for prerequisite or lower-level language courses.
Elementary Additional Language: 0-8 hours (Additional language from RSC.)
The same testing or placement conditions apply here as for Elementary German.
Intermediate German: 6 hours
- GERM 2113 Intermediate German I (RSC course GERM 2113)
- GERM 2223 Intermediate German II (RSC course GERM 2223)

Participation in foreign study is strongly recommended for all German majors and minors.
FLGN 4843 Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages may count as an upper-division German elective.
Minimum Grade Requirements
- Average in (a) all college course work, (b) course work at UCO, and (c) major courses: 2.50
- A grade of “C” or better must be received in all major courses to count toward meeting these requirements.
Electives
All UCO degrees require a minimum of 124 credit hours. Electives may be needed to bring total credit hours to 124.
