The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), in collaboration with Rose State College (RSC), participates in articulated transfer agreements to assist students in transferring smoothly from the associate degree to the baccalaureate degree. These agreements express a shared commitment to student access and success in higher education.
This document specifies courses to be taken at RSC and courses to be taken at UCO to meet this agreement.

Associate in Art (A.A.) - Modern Languages-Spanish Emphasis
Students should refer to the associate degree requirements and an academic advisor for associate degree details to ensure a successful transition to UCO.
Rose State College General Education
This section is an outline of the general education pattern at RSC common to all majors. Some general education areas may vary by major. In those areas, consult an academic advisor or refer to the RSC catalog or requirement sheet. An Associate in Science (A.S.) or Associate in Art (A.A.) degree from an accredited Oklahoma institution that includes the OSRHE minimum requirements will satisfy the UCO University Core.
Language Arts 6 hours

History 3 hours
- HIST 1483 U.S. History to 1877 (UCO course HIST 1483)

Political Science 3 hours
- POLS 1113 American Federal Government (UCO course POL 1113)
Science 6-8 hours
One course must be a laboratory science. Students should refer to associate degree requirements or consult with an academic advisor for appropriate course selection for specific majors.
Mathematics 3 hours
Students should refer to associate degree requirements or consult with an academic advisor for appropriate course selection for specific majors.
Humanities 6 hours
Chosen from nonperformance courses defined as humanities by the institution granting the associates degree. Students should refer to associate degree requirements or consult with an academic advisor for appropriate course selection for specific majors.
Liberal Arts Electives 3 hours
Students should refer to associate degree requirements or consult with an academic advisor for appropriate course selection for specific majors.
General Education Electives 5-7 hours
Students should refer to associate degree requirements or consult with an academic advisor for appropriate course selection for specific majors.

Credited courses completed as part of the A.A. or A.S. that do not meet a specific UCO degree requirement transfer to UCO as electives and may count toward the 124-hour minimum. Students should consult an academic advisor to determine how elective courses apply toward the bachelor’s degree. Information for individual courses can be found on the UCO website under the UCO Transfer Equivalency Database.
Bachelor of Arts in Education (B.A.Ed.) - Modern Language Education- Spanish
Degrees from UCO have requirements applicable to all degrees and requirements specific to the program/major.
Degree Requirement Minimums for All Programs/Majors
Students must meet all bachelor’s degree requirements at UCO to include minimums of:
- 40 hours of upper division coursework
- 30 hours in residence at UCO
- 15 of the last 30 hours must be taken in residence at UCO
- 60 hours from baccalaureate granting institutions
- 124 total hours
UCO Major Requirements
This section details the course requirements for this major at UCO. The UCO course is followed by the community college equivalent or substituted course. Some courses may be taken at the community college but may or may not apply to the associate major or degree. Consult with an academic advisor for that information.

Modern Language Education - Spanish
Elementary Spanish: 0-8 hours
- SPAN 1114 Elementary Spanish I (RSC course SPAN 1115)
- SPAN 1224 Elementary Spanish II (RSC course SPAN 1225)
A maximum of eight hours of credit for Elementary Spanish may be earned by examination. Alternatively, two (2) years of high school Spanish may be substituted for SPAN 1114 and another two (2) years of high school Spanish for SPAN 1224. This fulfills the language requirement but conveys no credit hours toward graduation. Evaluation of a student’s language skills may lead to placement in a more advanced course and waiving of prerequisite courses. Only testing through acknowledged processes (CLEP or AP, for example) conveys credit hours for prerequisite or lower-level language courses.
Elementary Additional Language: 0-4 hours (Additional language from RSC)
The same testing or placement conditions apply here as for Elementary Spanish.
Intermediate Spanish: 6 hours

- SPAN 3223 Introduction to Spanish Literary Analysis
- SPAN 4113 Advanced Spanish Grammar
- SPAN 4910 Seminar in Spanish (3 hours)

- SPAN 4123 Survey of Spanish Literature to 1800
- SPAN 4133 Survey of Spanish Literature 1800 to the Present
- SPAN 4223 Survey of Early Latin American Literature

Participation in foreign study is strongly recommended for all Spanish majors and minors.

- Overall GPA in all college course work: 2.50
- Average in course work at UCO: 2.00
- Courses in English Composition, Fundamentals of Speech, Professional Education, and area of specialization (major): “C”
- Proficiency in foreign language: Novice 4 level
Electives
All UCO degrees require a minimum of 124 credit hours. Electives may be needed to bring total credit hours to 124.
Transfer Policies
Transfer policies are available in the Introduction for Program-to-Program Agreements. This agreement does not include all possible variations for transfer with these programs/majors. The Academic Advisors along with the information in the official catalogs at both institutions are critical to the understanding of the specifics of degree completion.
