BIO 4334 - Environmental Microbiology And Laboratory


This course studies microorganisms within all habitats, including their influences upon living organisms and understanding their beneficial and detrimental impacts on human health and environmental welfare. The topics to be evaluated include microbial diversity in the environment, environmental sampling, detection, and evaluation. Special applied topics are emphasized including environmental quality, risk assessment, bioremediation, and waste and drinking water treatment. The course is a blend between lectures, hands-on learning laboratories, and off-campus opportunities to provide a broad understanding off the applied role that microorganisms contribute to overall environmental and human well-being.

Credit Hours: 4

Prerequisites: BIO 3054  all with a minimum grade of C.
